We love receiving visitors, but Catalina is a private community and so we ask that visits are arranged in advance. We hold several public events and Open Doors days during the year, each with an opportunity to join a guided walk of the water retention landscape, and the best way to find out about these is to sign up for our occasional newsletter. We also collaborate with local schools to run workshops and courses for children and young people, as well as running fully funded Erasmus+ training courses and and annual Learning Community volunteering programme.

Visits
Schools, organisations or groups can arrange visits which can include a guided walk and participation in a simple activity, such as planting a tree or finding out about making compost.
JARA volunteering and Permablitz days
Twice a month we organise a volunteering day including a free lunch in our communal dining area. These events always include an informative session presenting the work to be done in the context of the overall permaculture design, so participants can learn by doing.
Workshops and courses
We run occasional workshops and courses throughout the year, led by guests or members of the team, as well as intensive Erasmus+ courses for youth workers focused on exploring new eco-narratives for a regenerative future. These serve to recharge the batteries of those on the frontline of working with young people, counteracting eco-anxiety by exploring new ways of imagining and framing a different future. Our annual international Learning Community programme receives groups of volunteers who spend 10 weeks living and working here, deepening their knowledge of permaculture.
Festival Almenara – 16 May 2026
Once a year we hold a one-day event in which we gather to imagine a regenerative future. There are opportunities for learning (through a programme of workshops and talks), exploring (through guided walks) and celebrating together as we eat good food and dance after sunset. But the most important part of the day is the Human Library, when local residents share their projects and initiatives that are already working towards the regenerative future we need.
School programmes
We are working with the local high school on a project to recover the commons by supporting natural ecological succession and restoration of the water cycle. The site chosen is on the ridge where our private land meets the public road and picnic area, and which offering a rich exploration of “the edge effect“. Hundreds of people walk by here every day enjoying the incredible views, but few linger since the stone benches are unshaded and exposed to the elements. Participants will care for the pioneer vegetation, supporting succession so larger trees can provide shade and shelter over time, and learn about the importance of the water cycle. By developing ecoliteracy and expanding awareness of the commons, we aim to promote active citizenship and shared responsibility for a regenerative future
Casa La Cuartilla
Sustainable Accommodation
When we are not using Casa La Cuartilla for our own activities and events, we offer it for rental as a retreat space for all those who are working to imagine a regenerative futures in their own fields, with their own tools and communities.
