We use art and activism to accelerate the cultural paradigm shift we urgently need. Practices drawn from deep ecology and the Work That Reconnects help us deeply experience our interdependence with nature and process our shared pain at the damage we humans are causing. We seek deeper conversations around the uncertain future, raising awareness and curiosity through art works like Almenara – Memorial a la Vida and symbolic, poetic actions with the XR La Janda Red Rebels.
Cultural paradigm shift
Using tools from permaculture, deep ecology, the Work that Reconnects and decolonial thinking, we explore how we connect to the world around us and how we imagine the future.
We run occasional short workshops and, together with Párpado (an initiative of Be.Time SCA) we have developed an intensive residential course in the Erasmus+ programme, exploring new econarratives that run counter to our culture’s main, problematic storylines, such as “Business as Usual” and “Collapse”.
Supporting local activism and active citizenship
We host an annual, one-day Regenerative Cultures festival to share local initiatives that are working to imagine a regenerative future. During the day different members of our community offer talks and workshops connected to permaculture’s triple ethic (care for people, planet and the future) and we close with time to celebrate together.
We collaborate with local activists from La Janda por el Clima, Ecologistas en Acción, XR La Janda and the local XR Red Rebels to create creative local actions to raise awareness of the climate and ecological emergency and put pressure on our local administrations to take appropriate action.
Art and Ecology
We aim to create conversations that invite curiosity and develop potential solutions, rather than polarising and ending in denial, feelings of isolation and eco-anxiety or a false and complacent hiding behind tech-will-save-us. Our work with deep ecology has shown us the transformative power of including space for difficult emotions – fear, anger, grief and loss – so among other responses, we have created a Life Cairn installation on the edge of our land, where private land meets public space, offering the perfect conditions for unusual encounters: Almenara Memorial a La Vida. We also work with visiting artists and performers to create engaged art, such as Nitrogen Cycle, an ephemeral artwork by Lucia Loren, created together with Be.Time SCA.
